Reinstalling Sims2 Default Neighborhoods

This is something that has been asked in many forums and often through the sims2 community. There are several reasons you might want to reinstall or replace the default neighborhoods in your sims game. It is always recommended to back up your game before attempting this.SimsPe is a tool that makes backing up your game a snap.
Of course in order to perform a backup and to reinstall the neighborhoods, you must have installed the game on your hard drive.

Now that you have made a backup of your game you are ready to get started.

  • Make sure you have exited all game applications, i.e. The Sims2 and bodyshop.
  • Use the following path to locate the files on your computer: C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\The Sims 2\TSData\Res\UserData\Neighborhoods.
  • When you arrive at that location you should see four folders and a file. The file should be named NeighborhoodManager.package. The folders should be N001, N002, N003 and Tutorial. The folders you are looking for will be N001, N002 and N003. These folders represent the neighborhoods.
    • N001 = Pleasentview
    • N002 = Strangetown
    • N003 = Veronaville
  • Right click on the neighborhood that you want to reinstall and select copy.
  • Navigate to this location, My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Neighborhoods on your hard drive.
  • Right click the inside this folder (be sure you have done this in the blank section of the folder) and click paste.
  • Depending on your computers settings you might be asked if you want to replace the files. If this prompt occurs, select "Yes to all".

That's it. You should now be able to restart your game and find your newly reinstalled/replaced neighborhood as it came when you first loaded your game.

After you restart your game if you don't not see the neighborhood you are looking for, repeat the above steps. Making sure to verify that you copied the correct neighborhood number. If you need any additional help, please visit our forums.
